What is Nori?
Health Benefits
Nori has been attracting attention for its nutritional properties for many centuries – and for a good reason!
Micronutrients
Nori Flakes are known to be high in rich vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, K, C and B, as well as calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. In fact, a single sheet of Nori (or a sprinkle of Nori Flakes) contains about the same amount of calcium as a whole egg – how amazing is that!
Digestion & Thyroid Function
Nori also contains enzymes that are believed to aid digestion and has high levels of iodine which is known to support healthy thyroid function.
Protein, Fibre & Fatty Acids
This powerhouse food is also high in fibre, protein and DHA fatty acids – making it a popular inclusion in vegetarian and vegan dishes!
How to eat Nori Flakes?
Nori is ready-to-eat, and is ideal for sprinkling onto food as a tasty and nourishing seasoning.
Use to top warm or cold rice bowls, Asian noodle dishes, salads and miso soups. It adds a lovely herby and savoury flavour when sprinkled on pizza or pasta and noodles or when added to breads, muffins, crêpes, sauces, dressings and dips. It is a great addition to many vegan recipes to recreate a ‘seafood’ flavour that isn’t overly ‘fishy’.
For a tasty Vegan ‘Tuna’ Sandwich; blend together ½ tsp Nori flakes with 1 can of drained chickpeas, 3 tbsp vegan mayonnaise, onion, capers, and seasoning, and serve on bread with salad leaves of your choice.
